Physician Employment Opportunities on Maryland's Eastern Shore

Shore Health System offers physicians the perfect balance: a growing career at a top-notch facility, plus the warmth and charm of small-town living on the Chesapeake Bay.

Shore Health System's Memorial Hospital at Easton and Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge have a combined 192 licensed beds, offering a complete range of inpatient and outpatient services to over 100,000 people throughout the Mid-Shore of Maryland. Situated on Maryland's Eastern Shore, these two hospitals became affiliated in 1996 and formed Shore Health System, which became a part of the University of Maryland Medical System in 2006. Shore Health System employs over 1,700 people.

The Dorchester General Hospital is a 49-bed, acute facility located in Cambridge, Maryland. Through Shore Behavioral Health Services, the hospital provides comprehensive mental health and substance abuse programs on an inpatient and outpatient basis.

The Memorial Hospital at Easton is a 123-bed acute facility located in Talbot County, Maryland, that offers a 20-bed Requard Center for Acute Rehabilitation—the only one of its kind in the region—and outpatient centers that provide primary care, diagnostics, treatment, education, and rehabilitation. Memorial Hospital is home to the Chesapeake College School of Nursing and both hospitals provide opportunities for clinical training for nursing students.

Shore Health System's specialty care services offer dynamic career opportunities for physicians in a number of clinical areas, including:

  • As employees of the University of Maryland Emergency Medicine network, physicians working in The Memorial Hospital at Easton, Dorchester General Hospital, and the recently opened freestanding Queen Anne's Emergency Center enjoy a dynamic community-based emergency medicine practice. The University of Maryland Emergency Medicine network emphasizes physician leadership in the ED, collaboration with Magnet nurses, safe staffing, and evidence-based practice. Each practice site is equipped with modern bedside ultrasound machines; equipment for managing difficult airways, including video laryngoscopy; and digital imaging. Physicians have access to speakers and educational resources from the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
  • Shore Health's Requard Radiation Oncology Center and Shore Regional Cancer Center offer state-of-the-art oncology services and cancer treatment with a full spectrum of contemporary radiation therapies.
  • The Joint Replacement Center has earned national recognition for its quality patient care and outcomes.
  • Shore Rehabilitation Services offers comprehensive physical, occupational, and speech therapy at both hospitals and extends care through outpatient centers around the region and at the Center for Integrative Medicine.
  • The mid-Shore's only facility where inpatients are inspired to achieve their optimum level of function following trauma, injury, or disease. The program provides hospital-level care 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through a core team of healthcare professionals, including rehabilitation nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language therapy, case management/social work, and psychology. Other services include respiratory, pharmacy, nutrition, radiology, and laboratory, as well as access to orthotics and prosthetics.
  • Memorial Hospital at Easton is a designated Stroke Center in the State of Maryland.
  • Image-guided surgical navigational equipment usually found only at academic medical centers allows both hospitals to provide minimally-invasive procedures for a wide range of medical conditions, including sophisticated brain and spine surgery. An ambulatory surgery center offers convenience for patients who return home or to work following surgery.
  • The Children's Advocacy Center located at Memorial Hospital brings together a multidisciplinary team of medical, human services, and law enforcement professionals to investigate and prosecute cases of child abuse while supporting children and their non-offending family members.
